Lite Weight

This is an American badge recognising the market domination of light lagers. Light in the American sense refers to low carb, rather than low alcohol.liteWeight_lg

This badge simply requires you to check in Bud light, Miller light and Coors light. Easy if you live in the States, tricky in most other places. Now you can move on to the All American badge

Luck of the Irish

The country badge for Ireland. Check in 5 Irish beers to get this one, before leveling it after another 5 all the way to level 100.irish

It is fair to say Guinness dominates the market in Ireland, with Heineken (Murphy’s) and Magners cider also having large market shares.

A uniquely Irish style is the Irish Red Ale, with Kilkenny and Smithwicks (both owned by Guinness) being notable examples.

Beers from Northern Ireland also count towards this badge.

Heffenista

Check into 5 hefeweizens to receive the Heffenista badge. Hefeweizen light/leicht beers and Hopfenweisse’s also count.

bdg_heffenista_lg

A hefeweizen is a German wheat beer that is usually cloudy. The name means “yeast wheat” in German and refers to the beer being bottle conditioned and therefore containing some sediment.

Most German breweries produce a very decent hefeweizen but the most famous might be the two made by Erdinger and Paulaner.

Cinco de Mayo

Check in a Mexican beer on the 5th of May to receive this badge and celebrate Cinco de Mayo with untappd!

The festival celebrates Mexico’s victory over the French at the Battle of Puebla on 5 May 1862. It is also observed in the United States, where it celebrates Mexican-American culture. In 2013 more than $US600 million worth of beer was purchased in the United States for Cinco de Mayo, more than for the Super Bowl or St. Patrick’s Day!

Cerveza Matador

This is the country badge for Mexico. Have 5 Mexican beers for this badge. It levels to 100.matador

Most people think of Corona and a slice of lime when they think of Mexican beer. And, in fact, the market is dominated by only two main players: Corona is owned by Anheuser-Busch InBev while Heineken own the other main brewery, Cuauhtémoc Moctezuma Brewery (The makers of Sol and Dos Equis).

Wheel of Styles

To earn this badge you need to check into five different styles of beer. Levels were introduced in 2016.

wheel of styles level 15 badge

There are currently 253 different styles of beer recognised on Untappd and that number is growing all the time so it is definitely possible to take this badge up to level 51, if not higher in the near future.

Hopped Up

This badge requires you to check in five beers with an IBU of over 65. It levels up to 100.HoppedUp_lg

IBU stands for International Bittering Units and is simply a fancy measure of how bitter a beer is. As the name of the badge suggests, hoppy beers are often bitter and so have a high IBU. Watch out though, not every beer has its IBU recorded on untappd so if you are trying to go for this badge then make sure the beer has its IBU displayed next to the ABV.

Ye Olde Pub

Ye Olde Pub is a venue badge. Check in at five different “pub” venues to get this badge. A surprisingly recent addition, this badge was only added in November 2018.

bdg_pub_lgTo count as a pub venue, the place must be classified as a Pub, Irish Pub or Gastropub on Foursquare, the app untappd pulls its venue information from.

God Save the Queen

The original name for the country badge for the UK. It was renamed God Save the King in 2022.

England, Scotland, Northern Ireland and Wales also have their own badges, so for example, checking in 5 English beers will get you both this and the Tower of Beer badge.

The United Kingdom has traditionally favoured Ales and Porters and the Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA) has promoted the revival of cask conditioned Ales since 1971.

However, like most of the world, Lagers are now the biggest sellers. Carling (Molson Coors), Carlsburg, Heineken and Stella Artois (Anheuser-Busch InBev) all have a large market share.
