March 2023 Style updates

A wee while ago now, but Untappd added a few new styles back in 2023.

The additions were:

Historical Beer – Broyhan
Historical Beer – Kuit / Kuyt / Koyt
Lager – Other (Lager Jack)
Pilsner – New Zealand (Crisp as a Day)
Golden Ale – American (Fields of Gold)
Golden Ale – English (Fields of Gold)
IPA – Fruited (I Believe in IPA! and Fruits of Your Labor)
Stout – Belgian (Heavy Weight and Beyond a Shadow of a Stout)

In addition, Lager – Amber and Lager – Red got merged into Lager – Amber / Red (Lager Jack and Paint the Town Red), Golden Ale got renamed to Golden Ale – Other (Fields of Gold) and IPA – Brown (I Believe in IPA!, but oddly not Bravo for Brown) was added back into the database.

By my count, that takes the total number of styles on Untappd up to 253, meaning that you can now take the Wheel of Styles badge up to level 51.

Super Style: IPA – Imperial / Double

Another of Untappd’s badges that are exclusive to paid subscribers, to earn this you need to be a paid member and check into any Imperial/Double IPA. Simple really, just reach for your wallet and you are halfway there!

This is the fifth of six paid badges that Untappd has said they will release in 2022.

Super Style: IPA-Imperial/ Double New England

The final of Untappd’s six badges that are exclusive to paid subscribers. To earn this one you need to be a paid member and check into any Imperial/Double New England IPA.

Following on from the Super Style badges for New England IPA’s and Imperial/Double IPA’s, this is a natural conclusion to the 2022 series of six paid badges.

Super Style: Sour – Fruited

The fourth Insider badge out of six Untappd plan to release in 2022. To earn this badge you need to be signed up to their membership programme and check in any Fruited Sour beer.

National Beer Lover’s Day

7 September is National Beer Lover’s Day in the United States. Check into any beer between 6-8 September to claim the badge.

Super Style: IPA – New England / Hazy

The third of Untappd’s new badges that is exclusive to paid members. If you are a paid insider, simply check into any New England / Hazy IPA to earn the badge.

Simple really, you just need to open your wallet.

Super Style: Imperial Stout

The second of Untappd’s new badges that is exclusive to paid members. If you are a paid insider, simply check into any Stout Imperial / Double to earn the badge. It has to be a “plain” Imperial/Double stout, variants like Stout Imperial/Double Coffee don’t count.

This is the second of six exclusive badges that Untappd has planned for the year.

Super Style: American IPA

Following Untappd’s refresh of its supporter programme and its rebrand as Insiders, Untappd has now released the first of a series of “Super Style” badges that are exclusive to members.

This badge is attainable if you are a member of the Insiders programme and you check into an American IPA style beer. Like a normal badge, it then levels up every 5 additional check ins you make.

Untappd has just followed this one up with an Imperial/Double Stout badge, with more expected to be on their way soon.

Insiders

Insiders is Untappd’s renamed Supporter programme, where you can pay a monthly or annual fee to unlock a few additional features on the app. As a result, the Insiders badge replaces the Untappd Supporter badge.

Untappd have also promised to release a few badges that are exclusive to Insiders. The first one is called “Super Style: American IPA” and it levels up every 5 beers from the style of American IPA you check in.

Check-in the Dark

Check into any beer between now and 7 October 2021 with Untappd’s new Dark mode switched on to claim this badge.

This celebrates Untappd’s new 4.0 version which adds a Dark mode. To date the upgrade has been largely panned by users as many existing features have been removed. However this is designed to be one step back and two steps forward, meaning they should be returning soon to the app.

Until then, turn on dark mode, have a beer and get rewarded with this badge.
