наздраве: Breweries from Bulgaria

The country badge for Bulgaria. Have 5 different beers from Bulgarian breweries to earn the badge.

Major brands in Bulgaria include Kamenitza and Astika (both owned by Molson Coors), Zagorka (Heinekin), Pirinsko Pivo and Shumensko (both Carlsburg). Most brands in Bulgaria, while being internationally owned, are centred around a particular town or region. For example Zagorka is brewed in Stara Zagora and Kamenitza is from Haskovo.

Bulgarian beers also count towards the Baking in Balkan badge.

Roamin’ in Romania

The country badge for Romania. Have 5 Romanian beers to claim the badge, it levels up to level 100.

Romanian beers also count towards the Balkans badge, so you get twice the bang for your buck here.

In Romania, beer is considered as a food product so isn’t taxed the same way as in many other countries. The market is dominated by the big players: Asahi owns Ursus Breweries, Heinekin has Heinekin Romania, Molson Coors owns Bergenbier and Carlsburg has Tuborg Romania.

The Croats

The country badge for Croatia. Have 5 Croatian beers to earn this one. Of course, it keeps levelling until you reach level 100 after 500 beers.

The market is dominated by two lagers, Ožujsko (owned by Molson Coors) and Karlovačko (Heineken), however craft breweries are beginning to flourish. In particular, look out for The Garden Brewery from Zagreb who are excellent.

Croatian beers also count towards the Balkans regional badge, so you really get some bang for your buck here!

Frat Party

“Where’s the party at bro? That’s at least three cheap beers that college kids love and can afford.”

This was essentially a version of Lite Weight but for cheap American lager. To earn it you needed to check in Natural Light (Anheuser-Busch InBev), Keystone Ice (Molson Coors) and a Pabst Blue Ribbon, all at venues with a primary category of Other – College & Education.

The badge was retired in 2015, because it was both too American centric and also it kind of promoted underage drinking (as the drinking age is 21 in the USA).

The Great White North

The country badge for Canada. Have 5 Canadian beers to get level 1 of The Great White North. Of course it goes up a level after every additional 5 until it reaches level 100.

Canada’s three largest beer producers are Labatt, Molson and Sleeman. Labatt is know for its Labatt Blue branded lager and is owned by Anheuser-Busch InBev. Molson is one half of the Molson Coors conglomerate while Sleeman is owned by Sapporo. Sapporo also own Unibroue who are a Quebec based brewery that specialises in Belgian styles.

The largest Canadian owned brewer remaining is Moosehead, who have about 4 percent of the total market. Craft breweries occupy roughly 10 percent of the market that is very much dominated by multinational lagers.

All American

The All American celebrates seven mainstream beers from three iconic American breweries. Have all 7 to claim the badge.

AllAmerican

They include the three flagship beers of Budweiser (owned by Anheuser-Busch InBev), Coors Banquet and Miller Genuine Draft (both Molson Coors).

Plus the three lite versions: Bud Light, Coors Light and Miller Lite. These three also earn you the Lite Weight badge.

The final beer is a bit of a wildcard: the 6% Bud Light Platinum.

With all 7 beers checked in, you are surely now a true All American!

Keep Your Wits About You

This badge is for Witbiers. Have 5 to gain level 1.

A traditional Belgian style that literally means wheat beer, they are usually spiced by coriander and orange peel.

The style had fallen into obscurity until it was very successfully revived in the 1960s with Hoegaarden (now owned by Anheuser-Busch InBev). Another well known Witbeer is the American Blue Moon Belgian White (Molson Coors).

Czech It Out

The country badge for Czechia, check in 5 beers brewed in the Czech Republic to claim this badge. It levels up to 100.czech

Czechia includes the cities of Prague, the capital, Brno and Pilsen, which is where the style of pilsner was invented.

Unsurprisingly, the main beers in Czechia are all pilsners: Budweiser Budvar (the original Budweiser from the city of Budweis), Staropramen (owned by Molson Coors) and the original Pilsner Urquell (owned by Asahi).

Lite Weight

This is an American badge recognising the market domination of light lagers. Light in the American sense refers to low carb, rather than low alcohol.liteWeight_lg

This badge simply requires you to check in Bud light, Miller light and Coors light. Easy if you live in the States, tricky in most other places. Now you can move on to the All American badge
