Pumpkin Beer Season

Like that most American of deserts, Pumpkin Pie, Pumpkin beers could be described as an acquired taste. But if you check in to a Pumpkin / Yam Beer between 15 and 31 October 2022 there is a new badge to sweeten the deal.

In some ways, this is an evolution of Untappd’s old Halloween badge, Witch’s Brew (even the badge art is very similar) and of course Pumpkin / Yam Beers also count towards their own core badge, Gourd to the Last Drop.

Beer-giving

The fourth Thursday of November is kind of a big deal in America. Thanksgiving is really the national holiday, bigger than Christmas or Independence day. Check in any beer on the day to celebrate with the Beer-giving badge.

Thanksgiving celebrates the end of the harvest was first celebrated in 1621 by the pilgrims who founded the USA. It was proclaimed a federal holiday in 1863 and has been celebrated on the fourth Thursday of November since 1942.

This year it falls on the 28 November, so be sure to check in a beer and claim the badge.

Veterans Day

Check in a beer on the 11 November to gain the Veterans Day badge.

Veterans Day is an American holiday for honouring their military veterans. The date is known as Rememberance Day or Armistice Day in many other parts of the world and marks the end of World War One on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month of 1918.

Witch’s Brew

A celebration dedicated to remembering the dead, Halloween is probably now most known for the American traditions of trick-or-treating, jack-o’-lanterns and Halloween parties.

IPA Day

Celebrated on the first Thursday of August each year, check into any IPA on the day to gain this badge.

Untappd recognises 20 different substyles of IPA, but remember APAs don’t count!IPA2018IPA2016

India Pale Ales get their name because they were brewed to be shipped to India by British brewers. First developed in the 18th century, they were brewed to be hoppier than standard pale ales so they would last the journey. They quickly found a market in Britain as well as being exported to the other corners of the British Empire.

In the 20th century American craft brewers took the style and turbo charged it, adding even more hops and kick starting the craft beer revolution.

Make sure you have an IPA to celebrate IPA day today!
