Celebrate Oktoberfest

An evolution of last year’s Oktoberfest (2021) badge, it can be earned by checking into any beer that is a Festbier or Märzen between 17 September and 3 October.

The badge of course celebrates Oktoberfest, one of the oldest and biggest beer festivals in the world. Held every September, each year around 8 million litres of beer is served to the six million people who attend the festival. There are six traditional Munich breweries that take part in the festival, and each brews stronger beers that have been prepared all winter, ready for the Spring celebrations.

Oktoberfest (2021)

Not to be confused with the normal Oktoberfest badge, this one specifically celebrates the 2021 festival.

To earn it, check into any beer brewed by one of the original Munich breweries between 18 September and 3 October 2021. The five breweries are: Paulaner Brauerei, Spaten-Franziskaner-Löwenbräu-Gruppe, Staatliches Hofbräuhaus München, Augustiner-Bräu München, and Hacker-Pschorr.

In 2020 , Untappd has retired its festive badges tied to religious holidays (Hoppy Hanukkah and Merry Brew-mas) and replaced them with one badge that celebrates, and encourages, giving in your own community.

To get it, simply check into any beer between 10 December (the start of Hanukkah) and the end of the year. The badge was remodeled in 2021 as the “Season of Giving” badge.

St. Patrick’s Day

St. Patrick’s Day celebrates the patron Saint of Ireland. Check into any beer on 17 of March to claim the badge. If that happens to be a green beer, then even better!

Also look out for the Happy St. Patrick’s Day from Guinness which is a sponsored badge released each year

Mardi Gras

Have any beer on Fat/Shrove Tuesday to claim the badge. Mardi Gras is a Christian festival that leads up to the fast of Lent.

Although most people think of the parades and parties, especially the street party in New Orleans or the Carnival of Brazil.

The date of this festival moves around much like Easter does, but for 2020 Mardi Gras is set for 25 February.

Not to be confused with the new Pure Garden Bliss badge, this one celebrates escaping for a beer at a conference or festival. A venue badge, check into a beer at 5 different venues that are categorised as a conference, festival, convention centre or event space to earn this badge.

Oktoberfest

Oktoberfest, the world’s biggest beer festival! Oktoberfest is held in Munich and each year around 8 million litres of beer is served to the six million people who attend the festival.

Six breweries take part in the festival: Augustiner, Paulaner, Hacker-Pschorr (who is owned by Paulaner), Hofbrau, Löwenbräu (owned by Anheuser-Busch InBev) and Spatenbräu (also Anheuser-Busch InBev).

However, despite the name, this badge is not about the festival, it’s about the beer. Marzen (or Fiestbier) is the beer served at Oktoberfest. Have 5 beers of this style to get the badge.

Traditionally brewed in March (hence the name), these slightly stronger beers with a bready or biscuity malt background. They were designed to last all winter, when brewing was impractical. Any remaining at the end of winter was finished off at the start of spring, at Oktoberfest.
