July 2020 update

All the action is at the start of the month.

July starts with Canada Day on the 1st, so start preparing your Canadian beers to claim the badge.

This is swiftly followed up by American Independence Day in the fourth of July. Check into any American beer to get this badge.

We are expecting a release of new core badges very shortly as well, so get your votes in and keep your eyes peeled for that one!

A venue badge for Chinese food, check into a beer at 5 different venues to earn the badge.

Venues need to be classified as either a Chinese Restaurant, a Chinese Aristocrat Restaurant or a Chinese Breakfast place.

Roamin’ in Romania

The country badge for Romania. Have 5 Romanian beers to claim the badge, it levels up to level 100.

Romanian beers also count towards the Balkans badge, so you get twice the bang for your buck here.

In Romania, beer is considered as a food product so isn’t taxed the same way as in many other countries. The market is dominated by the big players: Asahi owns Ursus Breweries, Heinekin has Heinekin Romania, Molson Coors owns Bergenbier and Carlsburg has Tuborg Romania.

All the Meats

A venue badge for BBQ joints. Simply check in a beer at 5 different BBQ joints to earn the badge.

As with all venues, the data is provided to Untappd by the Foursquare app, so check your venue is correctly classified to claim the badge.

Spring 2020 Style update

It’s not as exciting as a new badge but Untappd has released its style updates for Spring. Let’s have a look at the changes and how they affect the badges.

Bière de Garde and Bière de Mars are both now recognised as Farmhouse Ales and count towards the Trip to the Farm badge as well as their own Beer for Keeping badge.

Graff is now listed as “Cider – Graff” and counts towards the Johnny Appleseed badge.

There have also been 11 new styles added:

With all of the new styles, the Wheel of Styles badge can now reach level 43.

And one other minor updates that happened in April: Honey beer now counts towards the Hey Honey badge.

To Go Please

A very appropriate badge to add at the moment. This badge is for using the “Purchased Location” feature. Check in to 5 beers with a Purchased location different from your Location to earn the badge.

Now is a great time to give your bottle store some love, or better yet buy online direct from your local craft breweries – they need all the support they can get!

All Together

An open source beer that is being brewed by a number of different breweries around the world to support the hospitality industry, check into any version of the beer before 8 June 2020 to claim the badge. (Update: now extended until 8 August 2020)

The initiative started with the Other Half Brewing Co in New York, who came up with the recipe for this Hazy IPA. Currently 749 breweries in 51 countries are producing the brew, so chances are you can get your hands on one.

May 2020 Update

A few notes on what’s coming up in May.

Cinco de Mayo is on 5th May, so get your Mexican beer ready and look for the annual badge.

At this stage, American Craft Beer Week will still be celebrated in May but, like everything at the moment, that could change with the Covid 19 pandemic.

Dutch Beer Week has sensibly been moved to the first week of October, hopefully the badge will reappear then too.

In the meantime, enjoy your Untappd at Home and stay safe out there.
