Adventurer

A badge for theme parks and roller coasters! Check into a beer at 5 different venues categorised as an amusement park to claim the Adventurer badge.

Untappd relies on Foursquare for all of its venue data, so it can pay to check how a venue is categorised before checking in there.

Hey Honey

Hey Honey is untappd’s badge for Mead and Honey Beer. Have 5 to claim the badge.

Mead is made from fermenting honey and has a history dating as far back as 7000BC! Mead shares some similarities with wine as well as beer, and a wine yeast is often used.

Untappd recognises ten styles of mead: Acerglyn / Maple Wine, Braggot, Cyser, Melomel, Metheglin, Non-Alcoholic, Pyment, Session / Short, Traditional and Other.

Braggot is a Welsh style that can include malts and hops, making it more beer like. Cyser is a mead-cider blend. Melomel has added fruit while Metheglin (another Welsh style) has added herbs or spices. Pyment includes grapes, making it more like a honey wine.

Honey Beer is a separate style that also now counts towards the badge.

Brew Lagoon

The country badge for Iceland. Have 5 Icelandic beers to get level 1 of Brew Lagoon.

Beer doesn’t have a long history in Iceland, in fact it was basically banned there until 1989! This prohibition was lifted on 1 March 1989, which is now celebrated each year as Beer Day!

Einstök is probably the most well known craft brewer in the country and produces beer using glacier water.

Suds Samba

The country badge for Brazil. Have 5 Brazilian beers to claim level 1 of the Suds Samba badge.

Brazil is known for a number of mass produced lagers. Beers such as Skol, Brahma and Bohemia. The world’s third largest beer market, it is dominated by AmBev who are a key part of the Anheuser-Busch InBev conglomerate.

While now it is mainly known as a Brazilian beer, Skol was originally conceived of as an international brand that could be licensed worldwide. The brand was set up in 1964 by four breweries: Allied Breweries (UK), Labatt (Canada), Pripps-Bryggerierna (Sweden), and Unibra (Belgium). AmBev produce it in Brazil today while Carlsburg now owes the European license and Unibra still operates in Africa.

By The Campfire

By The Campfire is meant to be Untappd’s venue badge for The Great Outdoors.

Unfortunately, as well as venues like national parks, campgrounds and beaches, venues such as neighbourhoods, towns and cities also count towards the badge. This means checking in a beer in someone like “London City” counts!

Despite the sloppy execution, the idea is right – go out and enjoy a beer in the great outdoors!

The Wine of Beers

Have 5 Barleywines to earn The Wine of Beers badge. Untappd recognises three styles of Barleywine: American, English and Other, and Rye Wine and Wheat wine also count towards this badge.

A Barleywine is a strong ale of at least 6%, and usually more. They are rather sweet, due to the amount of malt added to achieve the desired ABV. Some beer critics consider them to be indistinguishable from Old Ales.

And no, despite the name, Barleywines are not a wine and contain no grapes.
