Untappd has just released a surprise core badge update for April. It includes five new badges and the promise of a sixth! Unfortunately, with half of the world’s population in lockdown right now, three of the five are venue badges. The new additions are:
Untappd have also promised to add a “Verified Guest” badge after the Covid-19 pandemic is over. This badge will be for attending five events at verified venues.

National Beer Day celebrates the end of prohibition in the United States. The Act ending the prohibition of alcohol was enacted on 7 April 1933, having been signed into law by President Franklin D. Roosevelt two weeks earlier.
However, the act didn’t take effect immediately, meaning that alcohol was illegal in the USA from January 1920 until December 1933.
To claim this badge, simply check into any beer on National Beer Day.

Simply check into a beer on your birthday to earn the Birthday Brew badge. Untappd asks for your date of birth on sign up, so make sure that’s accurate for this to work.

A new venue badge added in December 2019, simply check into any beer at 5 different Mexican restaurants, taco or burrito places to claim this badge.
St. Patrick’s Day celebrates the patron Saint of Ireland. Check into any beer on 17 of March to claim the badge. If that happens to be a green beer, then even better!
Also look out for the Happy St. Patrick’s Day from Guinness which is a sponsored badge released each year

Introduced in December 2019, have 5 American Wild Ales, Brett IPA’s, Wild Ales – Other or Brett Beers to claim this badge.
Brett stands for Brettanomyces, a type of wild yeast that can infect fermenting beer – usually its unwanted but for these beers it’s a deliberate, or at least encouraged, addition.
They share some similarities with traditional Belgian styles like Lambics and Flanders Oud Bruins, so can be seen as a modern craft twist on these styles.
One of the weirdest Wild Ale brews has to be Beard Beer by Rogue Ales. The beer was fermented using yeast harvested from the head brewers beard!
Introduced in 2019, use the hash tag #WomensDay on any beer check in on International Women’s Day to claim the badge.
In 2020, International Women’s Day falls on the 8 March. The day has been celebrated since 1909 and is now recognised by the United Nations.

A badge that is only offered every four years, have a beer on 29 February to claim this badge!
Leap years occur (almost) every four years in the Gregorian calendar and realign the calendar with the earth’s orbit (which takes 365.256 days to orbit the sun).
Look out for this badge again in 2024!

Have any beer on Fat/Shrove Tuesday to claim the badge. Mardi Gras is a Christian festival that leads up to the fast of Lent.
Although most people think of the parades and parties, especially the street party in New Orleans or the Carnival of Brazil.
The date of this festival moves around much like Easter does, but for 2020 Mardi Gras is set for 25 February.
