What is hopefully a new recurring ‘Beer Day’ badge was added in 2024. Sour Beer Day is celebrated every September. For 2024 this badge was available between 19-22 September.
Untappd defines a Sour Beer as any style of Wild Ale, Brett Beer, Lambic, Sour or Farmhouse IPA, Berliner Braunbier, Lichtenhainer, Non-Alcoholic Sours, or of course, any Sour (Berliner Weisse, Fruited Berliner Weisse, Flanders Oud Bruin, Flanders Red Ale, Fruited, Gose, Fruited Gose or Other).
Celebrated on 27 October each year, simply check into any beer produced in the USA to claim this badge.
Introduced in 2022, the Beer Can Appreciation Day badge is available to anyone who checks in a beer with the serving style of can on 24 January. It’s also a great way to work towards the For the Can badge if you haven’t already picked that up.
Beer Can Appreciation Day marks the first day that beer was offered in a canned container, back in 1935.
After long running badges for International Stout Day and IPA Day, Untappd finally introduced a badge for National Lager Day in 2021. National Lager Day is observed on 10 December every year, so get a lager ready to celebrate and become a Lager Jack!
Fun fact: Lager is the third most popular beverage after water and tea!
The badge was broadened in 2022 to include the wider Lager family: Pilsners, Bocks, California Common, Festbier, Zoigl, Kellerbier, Malt Liquor, Rauchbier, Schwarzbier and even Baltic Porter now count towards National Lager Day.
Another new one-off badge, simply check into any beer between 27 and 29 September 2022 to claim the badge.
The actual day is on 28 September, which coincides with the birth of Arthur Guinness, the founder of – you guessed it – Guinness. Diego, which now owns Guinness, celebrated Arthur’s Day on 28 September 2009 to mark 250 years of the dark stuff.
7 September is National Beer Lover’s Day in the United States. Check into any beer between 6-8 September to claim the badge.
5 August 2022 is International Beer Day. Check into any beer today to claim this badge.
While not officially recognised anywhere, International Beer Day was first organized in 2008 and is celebrated on the first Friday of August. This usually means it is the day after National IPA Day, which is the first Thursday of August.
The event is not to be confused with National Beer Day in the United States, which is celebrated on 7 April each year.
One for the Cider lovers. World Cider Day was on 3 June – to claim this badge you needed to have any cider between 3-5 June.
The day is specifically to celebrate Apple ciders, and is in June to mark the start of the Northern hemisphere’s summer, as summer is the perfect time for a refreshing cider.
National Homebrew Day was on 7 May and Untappd have released a badge to celebrate. Check into any homebrew between now and the 9 May to claim the badge.
Every two homebrews is also a new level of the Home Brewed Goodness badge, so you might as well have a second.
Check into any Bock beer between 18 and 21 March to earn the National Bock Beer Day badge. This is an American event, celebrated on the 20 March.
A Bock is a style of strong, malty lager that originated in Germany. Recognised sub-styles on Untappd include Doppelbock, Eisbock, Hell/Maibock/Lentebock, Single/Traditional, Weizenbock and Weizendoppelbock – so hunt one down and join in the celebrations.
