Bizarrely, after a long break, Untappd has recently added two new core badges. They are:
- Buena Onda: Breweries from Argentina, and;
- Magical History Tour – for “Historical Beer” styles.
Hopefully we are back to regular core badge updates soon!

After a long pause, Untappd has released five new core badges. All country badges, they have been subtitled “Breweries from x country” to make it really obvious.
The five badges are:

It’s not as exciting as a new badge but Untappd has released its latest style update. Let’s have a look at the changes and how they affect the badges.
Some styles have had minor name changes (for example IPA – New England is now IPA – New England / Hazy) but there are no big changes to existing styles.
There have also been 11 new styles added:
With all of the new styles, the Wheel of Styles badge can now reach level 44.

Following the new voting process, Untappd has just released a sneaky little core badge update of three brand new badges. The new additions are:

Untappd has just released its first core badge update in over a year. It includes six brand new core badges. The new additions are:
Quite an eclectic mix really!
Remember, you can vote for your favourite proposals on the Untappd site.

May is always a great month for badges, and even in the midst of a pandemic 2021 is no different. American Craft Beer Week is back, it is accompanied by the traditional badge so it’s a great time to seek out some American craft beer.
Dutch Beer Week is also (re-)scheduled for 27 May – 6 June, so hopefully the badge will return for that week as well. Based on the recent presence of Kings Day, things are looking promising!

After a year of waiting, we don’t quite have new badges, but we do have news about new badges. In this recently released update, Untappd has announced an overhaul of its badge system.
Included is a promise to release a new set of core badges in late spring and to make use of the app’s push notification system to survey users about new badge suggestions.
Also included is clarification on the new policy around holiday badges – they will be limited to those that are “those that are international in scope or beer-centric.” We’ve already missed and Hoppy Hanukkah, Merry Brew-mas and Brew Bowl and my reckoning that means saying good bye to other favourites such as Cinco de Mayo, Independence Day, Beer-Giving and Witch’s Brew as well.
Some older badges are also going to be retired, Middle of the Road got a particular mention, and others will receive brand new art work as part of the refresh.
After a year of inaction, its exciting times for Untappd’s badge collection!

Untappd is expecting to have its Billionth check in in the next day or two. Once this happens, you have 72 hours to check in a beer and claim this one off badge.
More info, including a related photo contest, is available here.

It’s not as exciting as a new badge but Untappd has released its style updates for Spring. Let’s have a look at the changes and how they affect the badges.
Bière de Garde and Bière de Mars are both now recognised as Farmhouse Ales and count towards the Trip to the Farm badge as well as their own Beer for Keeping badge.
Graff is now listed as “Cider – Graff” and counts towards the Johnny Appleseed badge.
There have also been 11 new styles added:
With all of the new styles, the Wheel of Styles badge can now reach level 43.
And one other minor updates that happened in April: Honey beer now counts towards the Hey Honey badge.

A few notes on what’s coming up in May.
Cinco de Mayo is on 5th May, so get your Mexican beer ready and look for the annual badge.
At this stage, American Craft Beer Week will still be celebrated in May but, like everything at the moment, that could change with the Covid 19 pandemic.
Dutch Beer Week has sensibly been moved to the first week of October, hopefully the badge will reappear then too.
In the meantime, enjoy your Untappd at Home and stay safe out there.
