Mead Day

Here is a rare non-beer badge on Untappd. Check into any Mead between 5 and 7 August 2022 to claim this badge.

Mead Day was founded by the American Homebrewers Association way back in 2002 and is celebrated on 6 August every year.

Every Mead you check in also counts towards the Hey Honey badge.

International Beer Day

5 August 2022 is International Beer Day. Check into any beer today to claim this badge.

While not officially recognised anywhere, International Beer Day was first organized in 2008 and is celebrated on the first Friday of August. This usually means it is the day after National IPA Day, which is the first Thursday of August.

The event is not to be confused with National Beer Day in the United States, which is celebrated on 7 April each year.

Super Style: American IPA

Following Untappd’s refresh of its supporter programme and its rebrand as Insiders, Untappd has now released the first of a series of “Super Style” badges that are exclusive to members.

This badge is attainable if you are a member of the Insiders programme and you check into an American IPA style beer. Like a normal badge, it then levels up every 5 additional check ins you make.

Untappd has just followed this one up with an Imperial/Double Stout badge, with more expected to be on their way soon.

National Dive Bar Day

Check into any beer at a Bar, Pub or Dive Bar between 7 July and 10 July 2022 to earn this badge.

While it has some similarities with Taking a Dive, this badge celebrates Dive Bars. The day was originally created by now defunct alcohol company Seagram – whose flagship whiskey brand was “7 Crown”.

2022 Style update

Untappd has released its latest style update and its a big one, adding 20 styles and reorganising the Non-Alcoholic and Historical beer categories. Overall 15 badges are affected by the changes. The full list of style changes can be found here but lets have a quick look at what it means for the badges:

Controversially, that means a Non-Alcoholic Porter / Stout counts towards both the Port and Stout badges, as well as the Heavy Weight badge! Adding more fuel to the fire over the debate between the two.

2022: International Year of Glass

Did you know that 2022 has been declared the United Nations International Year of Glass? Untappd did, and they created a badge to celebrate!

To claim it, check in two beers with the serving style of bottle. Available between 21 June and 9 August 2022, it levels up every 2 check-ins up to level 5. So that’s 10 bottles required to claim the badge. These check-in’s will also count towards the standard bottle badge, 99 bottles, if you haven’t already got that.

You can find out more about the UN’s International Year of Glass on its very own website, but it celebrates Glass’ valuable, and environmentally sustainable, role in society.

World Cider Day

One for the Cider lovers. World Cider Day was on 3 June – to claim this badge you needed to have any cider between 3-5 June.

The day is specifically to celebrate Apple ciders, and is in June to mark the start of the Northern hemisphere’s summer, as summer is the perfect time for a refreshing cider.

Go for the Gold

Introduced in 2022, in time for the Beijing Winter Olympics, Untappd finally added a badge to celebrate the Olympic games. It was easy to claim, simply check in any beer during the period the games are on.

The next Games are in Paris 2024, followed by the Winter Olympics in Milan and Cortina 2026.

Stadium Beers

Untappd’s long running “Brew Bowl” badge celebrating the Superbowl was renamed for 2022. Now the more non-descript Stadium Beers badge, this change was likely done to avoid any copyright drama, as the NFL are notoriously protective of the Superbowl name.

The badge was also more restrictive than in past years, only a few styles of American lager counted towards the badge: Lager – American, Lager – American Amber / Red and Lager – American Light.
